The Dosage for CoQ10

The emergence of CoQ10 as a dietary supplement has increased in the past few years. The most common form of CoQ10 is as Q10 nutrition capsules. These capsules are often recommended to be taken as dietary supplements with each morning meal, much like common vitamins and multivitamins. But what is the correct amount of dosage for Q10 supplements and what are the effects of different doses?

CoQ10 or just simply Q10 is a naturally occurring compound found in our bodies. We can get around 5 mgs of Q10 from our normal diets. Animal products such as beef, poultry and pork are great sources of Q10. Organ meats such as the heart, lungs and other organs contain the most amounts of Q10. In vegetables, broccoli and spinach have high levels of Q10. Other unrefined oils such as palm oil and soybean also have concentrated amounts of Q10.

But even if we saturate our diet with foods like these, the most we can get is around 10-12 mgs of Q10 per meal. This may be enough for most people, but for people who are looking to boost their levels of Q10, supplements such as Q10 nutrition capsules are often integrated into their daily meals.

But what is the recommended dosage for Q10 capsules? As with any dietary supplement, increasing the dose can also increase the effects. With each meal, the recommended dose would be around 70-90 mgs of Q10 with a daily dose of around 200 mgs. People with Q10 deficiencies can take as much as 1200 mgs per day. For example, patients with Parkinson’s disease have been known to take well over 400 mgs per day.

For a person with normal health, taking an increased dose of Q10 can have some effects. There have been some rare cases where a small amount of individuals who took increased amounts of Q10 have suffered from mild side effects such as nausea and an upset stomach. But there are also studies that have shown a daily intake of 300 mgs of Q10 to still be safe and effective.

With any health product, there is an increased risk when it is taken in large excesses. The same general principle also applies with Q10 nutrition capsules. Although there are only rare cases where a person suffers from side effects, it is still highly recommended to consult your doctor or physician first before even taking the minimum amount of Q10 supplements.
